Who We Are

Brian Morrison, Owner

I’m so proud to be the owner of Fleet Feet Seattle.  I began working at the store in 2004, when it was still Seattle Running Company, and I absolutely love coming to work every single day.  We have great staff, great customers, and great vendors, and I feel so lucky to be able to combine my passion for running with work.

I am married to Andrea.  We have a son named Jack and a sweet border collie mix named Kiwi.  We live in Ballard, which makes for a nice 6 mile run to work, and are lifelong Washingtonians.

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest I've always had a love for the outdoors. However, I really didn't discover running until my early twenties. In fact, prior to college, I more or less dreaded running. I think the spark that really got me going was the opportunity to climb Mt. Rainier with my uncle. I began to run on a more regular basis to get in shape, and I actually started to enjoy it. Shortly thereafter, I discovered trail running and completely fell in love with the sport. When I'm not on the trails you can find me fruitlessly attempting to catch fish by way of the fly and listening to Pearl Jam.

I fell for Seattle on a solo bike trip from Michigan and moved here to start a marathon training program for homeless recovering addicts -- "Recovery on the Run" -- while working toward my MSW at UW. I have a natural affinity for distance running; I do my best writing on long runs and find it deeply therapeutic. Since the big move west, running has become so much more to me: exploration, adventure, a constant process of losing and rediscovering my way, remaining connected to the running community I left behind, and building connections within my adopted home.

A few little things: I served in Peace Corps, Jordan; been vegetarian all my life; sing (Bjork... Loudly...) while I'm running, despite my frequent asthmatic coughing fits; am teaching myself to love the Seattle rain (and miss my Michigan spring thunderstorms and frost-faced meditative runs through midnight blizzards); nerd out on politics and psychology; love hiking and caving with my favorite guy, Jeff; and hope to one day ride my bike around the world.

When I started my labor of love for shoes, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 3, New Balance 763, and Asics GT 2070 were kings and queens of the road. Out at the trails, Montrail's Leona Divide and Diez Vista were likely to be seen. A few years later, when I joined the staff at Seattle Running Company, the Adrenaline 7, the GT 2100, and the Mizuno Wave Rider 8 were at the top of Capitol Hill, while the first Brooks Cascadia beat all others to the top of Tiger Mountain.

In 2010 when we became Fleet Feet, the Adrenaline 10 and GT 2150 were still industry standards, though Saucony's Guide 3 and Ride 3 were coming up fast from behind! The trails had fallen to shoe anarchy; no clear victor to reward the spoils. By 2011, I feel like I've seen it all on the shoe wall: New Balance Minimus to the Mizuno Prophecy; running sandals to Superfeet sandals; Vibram Five Fingers to Asics Kayanos. I can't wait to see what comes next, and I'd be happy to tell you all about it!

I’m proud to call Washington home! I graduated from Seattle Pacific University about a year and half ago where I enjoyed four fantastic years of studying English literature and running on the cross country and track teams. Aside from debating Dostoevsky and enduring early morning interval workouts while at SPU, I also developed a deeper love for the sport of running and for the wonderful and quirky community that it creates.

Since graduation, I have embarked on the journey of running post-collegiately. Training and competing outside of school is a whole different ball game, but now with one solid adjustment year under my belt I am focusing this year on training consistently and trying to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 5k. I’m so thankful to be able to work at Fleet Feet where I get to share my love for the sport of running and work in a supportive environment with awesome people!

A few more things: I’m from the little town of Fall City, just 45 minutes east of Seattle, which is home to Snoqualmie Falls and some awesome running trails. I grew up sailing and hiking and have a mutual love for both mountains and water. I also enjoy traveling, meeting all sorts of people, and reading a well-crafted story. And, like any true Seattleite, I have a weakness for good coffee.

I moved to the Seattle area in August of 2008 from Western Pennsylvania where I attended college at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I competed in Division II Cross Country/Track wile earning degrees in Geography and Criminology. Beginning in September 2008, I began working full time for Seattle Running Company which became Fleet Feet Sports in March of 2010. Since March of 2011 I have worked weekend days at Fleet Feet as I began doing contract work at Google maps in Kirkland on weekdays.

Over the years I have run events in the U.S, Canada, and Europe ranging in distance from 3.1 miles to 135 miles on a variety of different surfaces. Running in the mountains or on back country roads at a relaxed pace is what I enjoy the most. I very much enjoy the diversity of people who come into the running store from all over the world. In general I love talking about running and am excited to help a new runner get started or simply share experiences with those who want to talk!

Born and raised in Seattle, I graduated from Seattle Preparatory in 2009 where I ran cross country and track all of my four years. While I was never at the front of the pack, learning the values of teamwork and leadership helped me attain the position of senior cross country captain. During my high school running career, I also developed an interest in the science of running, which brought me to the Seattle Running Company in the summer of 2009. It's been great working with Fleet Feet for the past two summers; I have definitely gained much more knowledge about running and our products, which I hope will be a benefit to you all! When I’m not at the store during the summer, I enjoy spending time outdoors running, hiking, or camping. If I’m ever stuck at home, I like to play piano and guitar. During the fall and spring, I attend the University of Portland where I am studying chemistry.

I’ve been a runner since the age of 13 after dropping out of gymnastics. I was captain of the cross country and distance track teams my senior year of high school. I ran with a club team in college and the Austin Runner’s Club while in Texas. When I moved to Seattle in fall 2010, I began running with the Fleet Feet weekly runs and eventually joined the staff in the spring of 2011. As individual a sport as running can be, the social network of runners has always been an important and inspiring part of my running experience. I’ve always enjoyed sharing stories, fitness articles, and training insights with my fellow runners. For me, running stores are more than just a place to buy gear, they are hubs for the running community.

I love experiencing life as much as possible...even if that means looking like an idiot...which it usually does. I'm a vegetarian. I'm passionate about people, design, and the interaction of the two. I love exercise, particularly running.

I moved to Seattle from Southern California in February of 2010 specifically for the mountains and the rain! I started running when I was eighteen, and discovered my passion for the trails a few years later. I can’t get enough of the single track this state has to offer.  I got my start with trail racing in the Cougar Mountain Trail Series in 2010. I have also run the Baker Lake 50K and Capitol Peak 50 Mile. My heart belongs to ultra distances. Ultimately, I want to use my endurance to travel and see the world through running. I am excited to be part of the Fleet Feet team and to be surrounded by people who understand why I do what I do!

I moved to Seattle in July of 2010 indirectly from Upstate New York where I was born and raised and even completed my Bachelors Degree in Nutritional Sciences. Back in the day I played some mean soccer, and placed 3rd at the US National Championships with my club ultimate Frisbee team from Boston (they have since disbanded because I am no longer there).  All the while I have been an avid runner, usually running for the sake of being outside, seeing some sites and contemplating life.

As many of my fine fellow co-workers have averred, upon moving here trail running quickly became one of my favorite things about this place.  I love getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city to run; and like Adam I can attest to the wonderfully relaxing nature of back country roads.  Over the years I have not run events in the U.S, Canada, and Europe ranging in distance from 3.1 miles to 135 miles on a variety of different surfaces; but I have run in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. I have recently discovered that Volunteer Park Café is the number one place to have coffee and baked goods in Seattle.

I'm a transplant from Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Besides running, I like playing soccer and hiking and starting to learn mountaineering skills. I love to write, mostly poetry and short stories. I recommend checking out Seattle's Poetry Slam- it's rad! I studied philosophy in college. My new favorite 'ice cream' flavor is coconut milk mint chocolate chip. Since moving to Seattle, I have discovered a love for salmon and Rainier cherries. My secret confession: before coming to Seattle I barely ever used to run in the rain and I kind of hated to. Needless to say, this has changed. I'm looking forward to running my first 50k in October.
