Washington Loves Runners. We carry products from 10 different companies that are all based out of Washington State. Everything from shoes to hydration, our state economy is supporting you, the runners and walkers of our community! So this Holiday season when you are thinking about shopping local, consider doubling up on your local factor and take a look at our Washington state brands. From now until the end of year, we'll be sharing interviews with the leaders and visionaries of these companies. And to kick off this interview series, we asked Sally Bergeson from Oiselle a few questions about her company and running.
Why did you start Oiselle?
Because I was tired of tired running apparel! I was looking for a combination of design and performance that didn't exist in women's athletic apparel at the time. I wanted a better fit, higher quality fabrics, and to create a brand that I felt better reflected the true essence of women in sports.
What's your favorite kind of run?
Seattle June evenings are truly magical. It's light out until like 9:30 pm. An easy 6-8 miler at dusk, when the sky is still lit, and the air is warm is my absolute favorite.
Where do you get your inspiration as you create a new season?
Runners, fashion, my kids, design books and art. Cross pollinating the expected -- with something new from running -- is my favorite. A good example of that is the running wedding dress we came out with in 2010.
What's your favorite Oiselle item and why?
The Roga Short. It started it all...the dream of a flattering, functional, non-poofy short.
What's the best part about being a Washington company?
Running in Seattle. Best running city ever.
What's one thing on your holiday wish list?
Boots, boots, and more boots. And lots of Oiselle styles in the Lux fabric.
