I should start off by saying that I’m a huge fan of running apparel that I can also wear casually, I like making my clothes work hard for me (and I like to be comfortable and running clothes are super comfortable). So, I was really excited when I saw the Brooks Heater Hog Long Sleeve came into the store. The Heater Hog is a fully synthetic top that employs a yarn that generates heat as you sweat (it hogs the heat!), so it simultaneously wicks moisture off your body and then turns it into heat!
The Heater Hog works great as a next-to-skin layer on chilly mornings or as a shirt to throw on after a run to keep you warm. This shirt is warm, so to this point I have mainly used it post-run and casually; but I look forward to mornings in the 40’s as I know that’s when this shirt will really shine. Built-in thumb holes mean that you don’t have to destroy the shirt by making them yourself, and they are a great quick-fix when your hands get cold. Reflective logos on the front and back will help to keep you visible during the upcoming months of short days and long nights.
Did I mention that the shirt looks good to boot? Well it’s a long sleeved black shirt; in my opinion it’s hard to go wrong with that. The shirt fits a little loose and long, but I would recommend staying true to size. I feel like the functional-apparel-that-I-can-also-wear-casually category (I think that’s a real category) was for a long time in the tight grips of Patagonia, so it’s nice to see Brooks getting in the game!
Come in and try it on, let me know what you think!
